IPL 2017: Twitterati forgive Steven Smith for ‘brainfade incident’ as they welcome the new finisher of Rising Pune Supergiant!

Steven Smith played the part of a finisher as he finished the match with two back-to-back sixes in the last over of the game against Mumbai Indians

Steven Smith was on a roll today, he played the perfect captain’s knock. The second last ball flick which went for six over square leg boundary had ‘finisher; written all over it. It was a belligerent knock from the new Rising Pune Supergiant skipper as he snatched the victory from the grasp of Mumbai Indians. Smith scored 84 runs off 54 balls hitting 7 fours and 3 sixes. Smith scored at a strike rate of 155.56.

Well, stats apart, Twitterati found their own way to praise the Australian skipper as there was no ‘brain fade’ involved. He carried on his innings from where he left in the Test series against India. It seems like he is going through a golden period with the sheer bit of luck on his side. He was dropped by Nitish Rana on the boundary and the rest is history as he helped his team register first home win.

#SteveSmith Finishes the game like #MSDhoni in front of #msdhoni
Dhoni in his mind at that time – Oh this is how I finish the game evrytime

Smith came into bat in the powerplay overs as opener Mayank Agarwal got out in the first over of Mitchell McClenaghan. Smith was a little patchy at the start. He paced his innings as well picking up a  boundary when the pressure started to get to him. He kept his nerves even when Ajinkya Rahane and Ben Stokes got out.

From the brain fade memes to most of India praising him now, he is doing his utmost best with his baaat #stevesmith #mivsrps

MS Dhoni too was not in the best of the form today as he was struggling to hit the ball to the distance in the 19th over. RPS needed 13 runs off the last over as Pollard came into bowl, there was pressure building with 10 runs needed off 3 balls.

Sensational innings from #stevesmith !! @stevesmith49 How do you feel by finishing the match with @msdhoni at the non-striker? #IPL #RPSvMI

Smith struck back-to-back sixes to win the game for his team, typical Dhoni style to be specific. The only change was that this time around Dhoni was standing on the non-striker end.
