IPL 2017 RPS v GL: ‘Most expensive’ Ben Stokes hits 103 off 63 as Pune beat Gujarat by 5 wickets

After this victory, Pune has retained their 4th position in the points table with 6 wins and 12 points

Another face-off in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 10 comes to an end after Rising Pune Supergiant maintained their victory run and defeated the Gujarat Lions (GL) by 5 wickets. Despite a good start by Gujarat bowler Pradeep Sangwan, all credit goes to Ben Stokes’ phenomenal knock of 103 runs which single-handedly took the team towards victory.

After this victory, Pune has retained their 4th position in the points table with 12 points while Gujarat still remains at 6th position with 6 points.

Earlier, Gujarat skipper Suresh Raina elected to bat first after winning the toss. The opening pair of Brendon McCcCullum and Ishan Kishan gave a good start but somehow, the batting trembled later and they managed to put 161 runs on the scoreboard after getting all out.

Rising Pune Supergiant, who all of a sudden improved their performance in the middle of the tournament, needed 162 runs to win the game. As usual, Ajinkya Rahane and Rahul Tripathi came in to open the innings for Pune. But Pradeep Sangwan, who debuted in today’s game for Gujarat, just thrashed the batting team with two early blow. Ajinkya Rahane and skipper Steven Smith were out in the first over itself.

In the next 4 overs, Pune had lost their other two hard hitter batsman in the form of Manoj Tiwary (0) and Rahul Tripathi (6). While the score was 42/4, Ben Stokes and MS Dhoni were present on the crease. The duo played in such a way that the Gujarat bowlers looked totally helpless. Ben Stokes hit his 2nd IPL fifty in while the pair of Dhoni and Stokes added a total of 76 runs for the 5 wickets before Doni got dismissed by Basil Thampi for 26 off 33.

Stokes didn’t just stop there itself but after hitting 6 sixes and 7 fours, he hit his first century in this season. He remained not out till the end and played an extraordinary knock of 103 off 63 balls. The last ball was faced by Dan Christain, who was in to bat at number 7, where he hit another humungous six and Pune win the game by 5 wickets.
