If Rosberg seals podium in season finale, Hamilton will lose 2016 Formula 1 championship title

Mercedes have already won the 2016 Constructors' Championship while defending champion Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg are ready to battle for the 2016 Drivers' Championship in the upcoming season finale

Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg still remain hopeful of winning the 2016 Formula 1 championship title. They will be both gunning for glory in the upcoming Abu Dhabi Grand Prix scheduled to be held at the Yas Marina Circuit in the United Arab Emirates on November 27, 2016. The 2016 season finale will be a dramatic race between the teammates who consider themselves as rivals. Lewis and Nico have simply dominated the ongoing campaign by collectively winning 18 out of the 20 races so far.

Hamilton who is the reigning champion remains in the hunt for the F1 championship title. The 31-year-old British racer is currently in second spot in the 2016 Drivers’ Championship with 355 points from 20 races. Having previously lifted the prestigious championship title back in 2008, 2014, and 2015, Lewis is aiming for his fourth Formula 1 championship title. The Brit will not only have to win the Abu Dhabi GP to maintain his title surge but will his fate also depend on whether his teammate fails to deliver on judgement day.

Elsewhere, Rosberg is racing to claim his maiden F1 championship title. The 30-year-old German driver is presently in first place in the 2016 Drivers’ Championship with 367 points from 20 races. Nico will be gunning for glory as he understands that he only needs to finish in a podium position to become the F1 champion, irrespective of what his teammate achieves.

Meanwhile, Mercedes have already won the 2016 Constructors’ Championship, having secured 722 points in the ongoing motorsport extravaganza ahead of Red Bull in second with 446 points and rivals Ferrari in third with 375 points. The 2016 Formula One season was certainly exciting and thrilling for the fans but definitely not what Merc had predicted before the onset of the F1 campaign. It was relatively easy ousting the competition by winning 18 out of the 20 races in the 2016 Formula One calendar. They also benefitted from Lewis and Nico’s rivalry which gave the Brackley based F1 outfit the edge over their rivals.
