Virender Sehwag wishes Harsha Bhogle Happy Birthday, calls him SHAKESPEARE of commentary

Virender Sehwag once again finds a witty way to wish someone on his birthday, this time around it is the infamous commentator Harsha Bhogle

Virender Sehwag’s birthday wishes are always funny and always in news. Harsha Bhogle is the latest entrant in Sehwag’s ‘Birthday Wishes Hall of Fame” as he turns 55. Bhogle’s commentary is loved across the country, a few of his statements like the one on Rahul Dravid’s stance were a pure work of art. His wordplay is what distinguishes from most of the commentators in the business. Maybe that’s the reason why Sehwag compared Bhogle to the ‘William Shakespeare’ of cricket commentary.

Bhogle is one of the commentators who never played the game but has earned the respect of many cricketers for his keen observation of the game and spot-on analysis. There was much outrage from his fans when he was sacked from the panel of commentators in 2016. The speculated reason behind his sacking was his comments on MS Dhoni during India’s match against Bangladesh for which even Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan targetted him indirectly.

Post his sacking the 55-year-old got offers lined up in front of him. He later joined Cricbuzz and starting doing exclusive shows for them. Though he could not be kept away from commentary, not for long, Bhogle made a comeback to the commentary box in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2017.

He has been commentating since then, he did it during ICC Champions Trophy 2017 followed by India’s tour of West Indies. He is expected to be in the commentator’s panel on the upcoming Sri Lankan tour as well. However, Bhogle has been commentating in Hindi as well for a while.

Sehwag’s birthday wishes have become special over the years. He always finds a way to praise the person or give them a name which he deems fit according to their personality and performance on the field. On July 17 he wished India Women team’s opener Smriti Mandhana as well.
