Nehra bowled the final over of the first T20I against New Zealand at Feroz Shah Kotla stadium. The crowd backed him up and the cheers only got louder when Kohli gestured to the crowd. A pivotal moment from the match was when Nehra was struggling to control his emotions before bowling the last ball of his international career.

The post-match scenes at the Feroz Shah Kotla stadium were a mix of emotions and euphoria. Shikhar Dhawan excitedly carried Nehra during the victory lap, Sehwag danced in the commentary box while VVS Laxman commented on Nehra a perfect farewell match.

Kohli talked about the viral photograph of him with Nehra from his early cricketing days in the post-match presentation on November 1. He said,

That was back in 2003 after he had come back from the World Cup. I was 13 then and struggling for a place in the school team. To have played 19 years is very hard for a fast bowler. I know how professional he’s been and how hard he’s worked. He deserved this kind of a farewell with the crowd cheering him. He can now spend time with his family, he’s got a beautiful family. We’ll stay in touch but we’ll miss him and I wish him all the best.
