Virat Kohli can break these records in T20s during upcoming series against New Zealand

The Kotla T20I will be Ashish Nehra's farewell match, his fans would dearly be hoping he is in the XI

Indian captain Virat Kohli has been in supreme form and has been breaking and setting new records for a while now. In the recently concluded One Day International (ODI) series against New Zealand, which India clinched 2-1, saw Virat Kohli break many records. By winning the ODI series, he registered India’s seventh consecutive ODI bilateral series win. Virat Kohli also became the second highest century maker pipping former Australian captain Ricky Ponting. He is now 17, shy of Sachin Tendulkar’s 49 tons in ODIs. Moreover, Virat Kohli has the highest number of centuries in the calendar year 2017 as captain. The Indian skipper also became the highest run-getter in this calendar year.

Records that Kohli can break in the upcoming 3-T20Is versus New Zealand.

  1. The Indian captain is just 36 runs shy of reaching 7000 run mark in the overall T20 cricket. If he breaches the landmark in the upcoming series, which he most probably will, he will become the eighth cricketer in the world to do so. Currently, the universal boss Chris Gayle holds the record for the most runs (10571) in the format as he plays in all the leagues across the world.
  2.  Another interesting record that beckons the Indian skipper is the fact that he is one boundary away from becoming only the third player to hit 200 fours in the format. Tillakaratne Dilshan (223) and Mohammad Shahzad (200) have already done it before.
  3. Also, Virat is just 148 runs adrift of 2000 run mark and if he continues in the sublime form like he was in the ODIs, he will in all likelihood become only the second player in the history of T20Is to do so.
