Twitter erupts as Lungisani Ngidi’s 6-for leads South Africa to a comprehensive 135-run win over India

There were no surprises on Day 5 from the Indian side as they were bundled out for 151 runs in the fourth innings chasing a target of 287

There were no massive turnarounds on Day 5 of the second Test. It belonged to the debutante Lungisani Ngidi who picked up a 6-wicket-haul on his debut and dismantled the Indian batting lineup. India fell short of the target of 287 by a big margin of 135 runs at the SuperSport Park, Centurion. India once again lost the Test series on South African soil despite all the hype before the commencement of the Test series.

In the first innings, Ngidi could only take one wicket by getting out Parthiv Patel. But, he bowled a few fiery spells in the second innings taking 6 wickets for 39 including the wicket of Indian skipper Virat Kohli.

Day 5 started off with a controversial runout decision of Cheteshwar Pujara as he became the first Indian batsman to get run out twice in a Test match. Pujara was followed by Parthiv Patel who was undone by a blinder from Morne Morkel in the deep square leg. Both of them scored 19 runs each. Both Hardik Pandya and Ravichandran Ashwin disappointed with the bat as they scored 6 and 3 runs respectively.

It was Rohit Sharma and Mohammed Shami’s 8th wicket partnership that gave South African players a few jittery moments. Rohit and Shami scored 47 and 28 runs respectively in their partnership of 54 runs. However, they got out in the first session only and Ngidi mopped up the tail quickly to get their team home.

Here’s how Twitterati reacted to the series of events on Day 5 of the Test –

It seems none of our players were playing seriously … No one to be blamed for this loss!!!

Once again over-confidence let us down!!!

South African players’ fielding stood out as they caught hold of a few half-chances in the field. AB de Villiers catch diving in the front to remove Rohit changed the game completely as he was looking to dominate and get visitors close to the total. So was Morkel’s catch to dismiss Patel.
