Steve Waugh on Ravichandran Ashwin: He is like Bradman & will be Australia’s biggest threat

India off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin is the number one ranked bowler in Test matches.

In cricket across the world, Don Bradman is considered the ‘father of the game’ and understandably so. His records are unparalleled and stand as the benchmark for all cricketers who aspire to represent their nation in whites.

Many have come close, like Adam Voges, who finished at 61.93; but he’s way, way beyond Don’s record. The Don averaged a mammoth 99.94, which is unreal, literally.

Coming to our protagonist, he is the current ICC Cricketer of the Year and the No. 1 Test bowler in the world and is at the peak of his abilities. Ravichandran Ashwin has emerged as a serial match-winner for team India.

As Ashwin readies to take on the might of the Australians at home, former Australian captain Steve Waugh has ushered praises for the Tamil Nadu tweaker by drawing parallels of him with Sir Donald Bradman.

It is like what Bradman is to batting, Ashwin is the same with bowling. Well, this is what is called an epic compliment, and highly deserved for Ashwin.

In a recent interview, World Cup winning captain Steve Waugh said, “Ashwin is basically the Bradman of bowling. What he is doing is quite incredible. I think he is the player we have to overcome. The Australians would have to look at ways to overcome Ashwin’s bowling. If Aussies can do that then we will have a chance. The guys need to stay calm under pressure”.
