Shikhar Dhawan achieves 5 great milestones with century in 100th ODI. Here’s the complete list

Shikhar Dhawan scored 109 off 105 balls but South Africa had the last laugh with a 5-wicket win at Johannesburg in the 4th ODI

Shikhar Dhawan’s emphatic 109 off 105 balls went in vain as South Africa won the 4th ODI by 5 wickets at Johannesburg. Dhawan, who was playing his landmark 100th ODI match, became the 9th player in the history of the game to slam a hundred in his 100th ODI. Shikhar Dhawan, who seemed to be having a problem facing the short-pitch deliveries, was at ease while playing the bouncers. He was seen happily pulling anything short, he was also happy to flick the ball towards the on-side. In fact, both the sixes he hit were flicked on the leg side. It certainly reminded us of Sanath Jayasuriya, someone who mastered that shot.

In this piece, we will list out the records Dhawan eclipsed in his 100th ODI.

Dhawan’s maverick 109 was the third time an Indian scored a century at Johannesburg. Sachin and Sourav were the others to have done the same. They did it way back in 2001. Ironically, all the three centuries came in a losing cause.

He also became the 9th player to amass a century in his 100th ODI and the first Indian to do so. Sourav Ganguly came close when he got 97 in his landmark 100th ODI.

Dhawan’s hundred is the first in 27 ODIs for India in South Africa where their opener scored a century. Sachin Tendulkar’s 152 against Namibia in the 2003 World Cup was the previous ODI ton by an Indian opener in SA.

Dhawan’s 4309 runs are the 2nd most for any player at end of 100th ODI game. Only Hashim Amla (4804) scored more than Dhawan after 100 ODIs.
