Rishabh Pant Has The Last Laugh, Makes ‘Temporary Captain’ Jibe At Tim Paine

Tim Paine should have seen it coming after 'babysitting' dig

Revenge is clearly a dish best serve cold. Rishabh Pant patiently carried on as Tim Paine mocked him from behind the stumps. Not even reacting to Paine’s ‘babysit’ jibe, the ‘BBL contract after ODI’ comment on Day 3 of the third Test at MCG. When Paine came to bat on Day 4, the world was ready for some epic banter from the Indian wicketkeeper and he did not disappoint.

Here’s how Pant welcomed the 34-year-old to the crease when Ravindra Jadeja was bowling,

“We have got a special guest here. Have you heard the word ‘temporary captain’ ever? You [Jadeja] don’t need anything to get him out. Come on, lads. He loves to talk, that’s the only thing he can do. Only talking-talking,”

The Australian skipper could score just 26 runs in the run-chase as he fell victim to Ravindra Jadeja. Ironically, Pant was the one who took the catch after an outside edge from the Aussie.

In case you missed the banter between the two earlier, this will give you a little context:

“I tell you what, big MS (Dhoni) is back in the One-Day squad, we might get (Pant) down to the Hurricanes. We need a batter (sic). Fancy that. Surely extend your little Aussie holiday. Beautiful town, Hobart too. Get you a nice apartment on the waterfront. Have you over for dinner (and) you babysit? I’ll take the wife to the movies one night and you’ll look after the kids?”

However, the only change we noticed during the banter between the two, was umpire Ian Gould’s intervention on Day 4. Soon after Pant’s ‘temporary captain’ jibe Gould had a word with the 21-year-old. Gould, however, did not say anything when Paine was trying to distract Pant earlier in the Test match.

Here’s how Twitter reacted to the whole episode:

@BCCI @RishabPant777 @imVkohli @ICC And they started to cry and went to grandma Ian Gould who for some reason didn’t agree with Pant Australians should taste their own medicine as well

Wait for it…

Tim Paine deserves Allan Border medal already. What a player! The best @CricketAus ever produced. Not for his batting skills though #ausvind

For the sake of Test cricket

Wish such rivalries should go on and on to keep the spirit alive for the next 100 years and more …

With one more match to go in the Test series, we will be anxiously waiting for more stump mic banter between the two wicketkeepers.
