RIP jersey No 10! Sachin Tendulkar’s signature outfit unofficially retired by BCCI

The legend retired in November 2013 bringing a 24-year-long career to an end. He had last worn No. 10 in March 2012 when he played his last ODI against Pakistan.

Batting legend Sachin Tendulkar who used to wear jersey number 10 has officially made it his. In a way to protect Sachin’s legacy, BCCI has unofficially retired jersey number 10. According to Indian Express, BCCI sounded out top players from the Indian team and they agreed that it made sense for No. 10 to be retired.

The legend retired in November 2013 bringing a 24-year-long career to an end. He had last worn No. 10 in March 2012 when he played his last ODI against Pakistan.

“It unnecessarily creates controversy and players get criticised,” said a BCCI official.

“So it’s better to retire the number unofficially. Players, though, can wear it when they play for India A or for say a non-international list A match but not during an international,” it concluded.

Sachin wore jersey number 10 all his life, but recently we found Shardul Thakur donning Sachin’s number. The young cricketer also faced unwanted flak for it, for no fault of his. Not just Tendulkar’s fans trolled Thakur, even Rohit Sharma took a swipe, posting a photo of Thakur with a smiley and a caption: “Hey bro what’s your jersey number?”

Later, in an interview, Shardul clarified, he said the digits of his date of birth (16.10.1991) add up to 28 and 2+8 equals 10.

Sachin Tendulkar is considered to be a demi-god in India. He holds the maximum number of records in the history of the game. Sachin has the most number of runs, centuries in Tests and One Day Internationals which is a massive feat to achieve.
