It must be the biggest breather for all Indian fans, especially Viratians! The blue-eyed boy of Indian cricket picked up a shoulder injury while looking to save a boundary, probably just a run. He injured his shoulder and had to leave the field in the second session of play. There was a time when people switched of television sets when Sachin Tendulkar was dismissed, it seems deja-vu that the entire nation is up in arms praying for Virat Kohli’s recovery. It is also impossible to think of India challenging Australia minus Virat Kohli. Virat Kohli has been India’s run machine ever since he was roped into the team.
With the series level at 1-1, it is important the Indian captain steps upto the plate and delivers. He has been devoid of big runs in this series, for that matter he has not even breached 20 in the four innings he played. It is also ironical since Kohli left the field India has not picked up a single wicket. The injury must have been serious to have kept him out of action in the last session. Knowing Kohli he would be raring to get back on the field.
In a statement released by the BCCI they claim,”The BCCI Medical Team confirms that Indian Captain Mr. Virat Kohli is presently undergoing treatment to recuperate from a strain in his right shoulder”.
The statement added, “Relevant investigations have revealed that there are no serious concerns, which will hamper his speedy recovery from a strain in his right shoulder due to a fall while fielding on Day 1 of the third Paytm Test against Australia in Ranchi.”
When Virat Kohli had left the field Australia collected runs with run machine Steven Smith and Glenn Maxwell curating an unbeaten 159-run partnership as the visitors ended Day 1 on 299 for four.
