PM Modi to Sachin Tendulkar: Congratulations pour in as India beat Pakistan in Blind Cricket World Cup finals

This is the second time India's Blind cricket team won the World Cup, after they won the previous title in 2014

‘Determination will get you everything’, said Sachin Tendulkar, and that pretty much summed up the efforts of the Indian Blind cricket team that fought all odds to beat Pakistan in the finals and clinch their second World Cup title in Sharjah on January 20. India beat Pakistan in a cliffhanger match by 2 wickets. Pakistan won the toss and opted to bat first, they scored a mammoth 307 in 40 overs, with the help useful contributions by Badar Munir (57), Risayat Khan (48) and captain Nisar Ali (47). For India, Deepak Malik and Rambir scalped two wickets apiece, while Sunil Ramesh snapped one.

Sunil Ramesh then blasted a scintillating 93 runs in 67 balls and skipper Ajay Reddy scored 62 in 60 balls as India beat the target with an over to spare to register their second Blind Cricket World Cup triumph. India had won their previous World Cup in 2014 and entered the tournament as defending champions and outright favourites.

After the victory, the social sphere went into a complete pandemonium. Congratulatory messages poured in from all corners. Here are the most high-profile tweets post-India’s victory.
