Nathan Lyon lights up Ashes 2017-18 Day 1 with a lightening quick runout— WATCH

Nathan Lyon ran towards the 'Barmy Army's' stand after pulling off an impact runout to get rid of James Vince on Day 1 of the Ashes Test

Australian off-spin bowler Nathan Lyon might not have got a wicket on Day 1 of the Ashes 2017-18 but he made up for it with a terrific runout. English batsman James Vince scored his maiden half-century in the first Test at The Gabba, Brisbane but could not make the match memorable and score his maiden Test century. Vince was batting well but tried to take a quick single by just pushing the ball towards covers off Pat Cummins’ delivery. However, he underestimated Lyon’s agility on the field.

As soon as Lyon fielded the ball he threw it in blink-and-miss motion without a second’s delay. The throw struck the stumps just short of Vince reaching the non-striker’s crease. The umpire Aleem Dar too was surprised by Lyon’s effort as he signalled the decision towards the third umpire.

Vince knew that he was well short of the crease as he started walking towards the pavilion without even waiting for the third umpire’s decision. The 26-year-old got out after scoring 83 runs from 170 balls including 12 boundaries. He stitched a partnership of 125 runs with Mark Stoneman who scored 53 runs from 159 balls. Vince shared a crucial partnership after opener Alastair Cook got out for 2 runs to Mitchell Starc.

Lyon did not get a wicket but he kept a check on the scoring rate. Vince’s wicket gave Australia a chance to get the game on their side before Day 1’s play.
