Mithali Raj breaks several records with just one inning as India beat England in ICC Women’s World Cup opener

Mithali Raj has scored seven consecutive fifties, which is the most by any international women’s player.

Mithali Raj is one of the most lethal batters the World Cricket has ever seen and she has proved it over and over again. It has been 18 years since she made her debut and she has never looked back. She is the leading run scorer for India in ODIs and just 141 runs away from becoming the batter with most runs in ODIs. By the looks of her form, it seems that it won’t be a problem for her to fetch these runs and top the chart.

In their first match of the ICC Women’s World Cup, Mithali capped India’s brilliant batting display that saw them pile up 281/3 in 50 overs against England. During the process, Mithali Raj smashed yet another fifty, and set a new world record. This was the seventh consecutive fifty for her and the most by any woman player in ODIs.

Boosted by the batting performance, India’s fielders and bowlers put in a magnificent performance as they registered a magnificent 35-run win.

With the contest over, Mithali instantly became a sensation on Twitter, as Twitterati couldn’t stop themselves from hailing her calmness:

She scored seven consecutive fifties, which is the most by any international women’s player. Before her knock of 71 against England, she had scores of 70*, 64, 73*, 51*, 54 and 62*.
With yesterday’s half-century, Mithali Raj scored a total 47 half-centuries, which is the most by any international women cricketer. Earlier, England’s Charlotte Edwards, had 46 fifties from 191 games.
The batting average of Mithali in Women’s ODI is the best among women cricketers who have played over 100 ODIs.
Mithali is only the second cricketer in the women’s game to score over 5000 runs in ODIs. She has 5852 runs in 178 games and is on course to become the first cricketer to reach 6000 ODI runs in the ongoing ICC Women’s World Cup.
