From the dugouts:

Team India played a phenomenal cricket in the recently concluded Sri Lanka tour and it will be expected from them to continue the momentum. The players are in good forms, however, India may miss Shikhar Dhawan who will not be available for the first three ODIs. In such a case, it will be a good opportunity for Ajinkya Rahane to bat up the order and show his skills.

After a long time MS Dhoni, Chennai’s ‘THALA’, is back to his second home which will make the local crowd more excited. His form has been outstanding in the last series where he set and broke several world records.

As far as the Australian side is concerned, Steve Smith wishes that spin should be the key factor in Chennai. Especially during the middle overs when there will be a need to slow down the proceedings and could end up naming just two fast bowlers – Pat Cummins and Nathan Coulter-Nile – in the line-up. Smith could try out with Ashton Agar, Head and Glenn Maxwell who have worked enough in the nets

James Faulkner has also returned to the squad after missing out the Champions Trophy 2017.

Also, Hilton Cartwright may get the opportunity to make his debut and open the inning with David Warner at the top until Aaron Finch recovers from his calf injury.

Squad:

India: Virat Kohli (captain), Rohit Sharma, Ajinkya Rahane, KL Rahul, Manish Pandey, Kedar Jadhav, Hardik Pandya, MS Dhoni (WK), Ravindra Jadeja, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah, Umesh Yadav, Mohammed Shami, Yazuvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav.
