Kane Williamson on Indian spin: We are wary of them

Team India and Virat Kohli would be pressing for the number one spot in T20I's. If that happens it will be number one in all three formats

After crushing Australia, Virat Kohli’s team India will be hosting New Zealand for a limited overs series. Team India will be high on confidence and understandably so. They have been invincible since the ICC Champions Trophy loss in the finals. The spinners have been the key to India’s recent success. Spinners are again expected to play the key in the upcoming series. New Zealand skipper meanwhile has expressed his fear of playing spin. He says the Kiwis are wary of playing Indian spinners in their den.

“They both have been very successful. We know it will be a tough challenge, but one that the guys are looking forward to. It’s not too many Chinaman bowlers going around, and they’ve all been fairly successful. Obviously, the skill sets of our players are very good, but how we adapt to surfaces will be one of the most important things,” Williamson said. New Zealand coach Mike Hesson said that a number of players have faced Kuldeep during the Indian Premier League. Some of them even played in the same team,” he said about the new crop of Indian spinners.

“So there’s enough information-sharing going on there. Some guys watch the hand or look at the wrist, or some read it off the pitch, some see it in the air. Everybody is a little different. Wrist spinners also provide scoring opportunities, so we’ve got to make sure that we’re not necessarily jumping in shadows and we’re actually playing the ball rather than thinking of them as too much of a mystery spinner,” he pointed out.

“You’re never quite sure of the surface that you’re going to get. Part of the adapting to the surface and conditions is also the climate that you’re in. It’s nice to be here a few days early and get guys used to the heat and humidity,” he says about getting acclimatised to conditions.
