Ishant Sharma to play Ranji Trophy season 2017-18, released from Indian Test squad!

Ishant Sharma will not be featuring in the India vs Sri Lanka Test squad as he will be leading Delhi in the Ranji Trophy season 2017-18

After not being selected in India’s playing XI against Sri Lanka in the first Test at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, speedster Ishant Sharma has been released by the team management to play in Ranji Trophy season 2017-18. Ishant was selected in the Indian squad but did not make it into the playing XI as Mohammed Shami, Umesh Yadav and Bhuvneshwar Kumar were selected for the Kolkata Test.

The team manager of Delhi, Shankar Saini confirmed the news of Delhi skipper’s return to the capital by the evening. He told PTI,

Ishant will be reaching Delhi by evening and he will be leading the side. Rishabh Pant will be his deputy. We have got confirmation.

Ishant is currently leading the Delhi side after Gautam Gambhir stepped down from the captaincy before the tournament. In his absence, youngster Rishabh Pant led the side to a draw against Karnataka. Delhi have been performing well in this season. They are currently placed second in Group A after Karnataka.

The 29-year-old will be playing against Maharashtra at Palam A stadium, Delhi starting November 17. The tall fast bowler has been in good form this season picking up 15 wickets from three matches. He picked up a five-wicket haul in the first match against Assam as well.
