Is Virat Kohli the reason behind Yuvraj Singh’s comeback to Indian squad?

Yuvraj Singh has been recalled to the Virat Kohli-led Indian squad for the ODI and Twenty20 series against England. Is the left-hander's friendship with the new skipper the reason behind his selection?

Ending all speculations, Virat Kohli has been appointed India’s captain in One Day International (ODI) and Twenty20 format of the game. The selection committee on Friday announced the team for the limited overs series against England beginning January 15. Yuvraj Singh, who was instrumental in India’s title victories in the 2007 World T20 and ICC World Cup in 2011, has made a comeback into the national squad.

Yuvi last played an ODI for India in 2013 and was a part of the national squad during the ICC World T20 as well. It seems that ladyluck has favoured the flamboyant left-hander, who tied the knot with his longtime girlfriend Hazel Keech in November last year. The wedding was attended by several bigwigs from cricket fraternity. Surprisingly, it was Indian Test skipper Virat Kohli who attended all the ceremonies of the 35-year-old cricketer’s wedding. While his fans have hailed his return to the Indian squad, critics have questioned the decision and thereby linked Yuvraj’s close friendship with Kohli behind his selection.

Virat Kohli attended Yuvraj Singh’s wedding ceremony in Goa on December 2.

The relationship between Kohli’s predecessor MS Dhoni and Yuvraj has not been much cordial in recent years. Add to this, the latter’s exclusion from the Indian squad in the ICC World Cup 2015 had angered his father Yograj Singh. Yuvi’s father even called MSD a Ravana in an interview two years ago. Last year, Yuvraj featured in the three T20 international series against Australia down under and also played a vital role in India reaching the semi-final of 2016 ICC World T20. Also, Dhoni did attend Yuvraj’s reception which put an end to all the speculations going rounds in the media.

Every captain wishes to have a team of his choice. If MSD had his say in the selection of team Kohli too has the right to do so. Another thing to keep in mind is that Yuvraj has performed well in the domestic circuit in recent times, which can be attributed to his strong contention for donning blue clothing once again. In the last five innings in domestic circuit, he has scores of 85, 260, 22, 26 and 177. With an impressive show with the willow and the present captain by his side, Yuvi has all the reasons to smile.

We hope that Yuvi once again torments the opposition with his all-round performance and win matches for India. Best of luck Yuvi!!
