IPL Auction 2018: CSK go big on Bravo on Day 1, spend Rs 30 crore

By the initial look, it seems like a batting heavy unit

After retaining Suresh Raina, MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja, Chennai Super Kings, making a comeback after two years entered Day 1 auctions with Rs 47 Cr in their kitty. But what we saw from the CSK scouts on the table was that they were looking to build a team around these former CSK players. The Super Kings, with all eyes on them, came into the bidding high on confidence because they had managed to retain their big three players.

Spinner Ravichandran Ashwin and allrounder Dwayne Bravo were not retained by the side and with the franchise retaining three capped Indian players, they can no longer use a Right-to-Match card to bring back Ashwin. It was difficult to understand the moves at that point in time when CSK did not show interest to get them back via RTM.
