IPL 2018: Mandeep Singh Compares Himself With ‘Lagaan’ Movie’s ‘Guran Baba’, Here’s Why

IPL 2018: Mandeep Singh trolled himself for playing a reverse sweep shot off Ravindra Jadeja during Royal Challengers Bangalore vs Chennai Super Kings clash

Royal Challengers Bangalore’s (RCB) middle order batsman Mandeep Singh trolled himself on Twitter by comparing himself with a ‘Lagaan’ movie character. In T20 cricket, batsmen do tend to play a few unorthodox shots, that include scooping and improvising when the bowler changes the length. Mandeep did a similar thing against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru.

In the 16th over of the match against CSK, Mandeep decided to play a reverse sweep off Ravindra Jadeja’s bowling. Mandeep got a boundary off that delivery as he had only the fielder inside the circle to beat. The kind of position he got into to play that shot was similar to what Guran baba does in the movie Lagaan.

Here’s what he tweeted comparing himself with the movie character while playing an unorthodox shot –

Mandeep has been in fine nick in the 11th season of Indian Premier League (IPL). His cameos helped RCB get a decent total and increase the scoring rate substantially. The 26-year-old has not been able to score a half-century in the tournament yet but has 171 runs to his name from 6 innings.

Mandeep was roped in by RCB for Rs 1.4 crore in the IPL 2018 auctions after a mini-tussle with Kings XI Punjab (KXIP). RCB are under pressure with just two wins off six games. They are currently in the sixth place on IPL 2018 points table. They were at the bottom of the table previous season. Pressure is on skipper Virat Kohli to get the team into qualifiers as almost every game they play from here on will be a do or die affair.
