IPL 2017: Is Glenn Maxwell the right choice ahead of experienced Eoin Morgan, David Miller?

Kings XI Punjab: Maxwell, who is reasonably new to captaincy take the command of a side that has been the unluckiest ever franchisee in the history of IPL

With the Kings XI Punjab team opting for Glenn Maxwell to carry the ship forward, the question that pops up is whether he is the right man at the top ahead of Martin Guptill, English limited overs skipper Eoin Morgan or a David Miller. So why ask Maxwell, who is reasonably new to captaincy, take the command of a side that has been the unluckiest ever franchise in the history of the Indian Premier League.

The ammunition that Maxwell will have at his behest are top class batsmen Murli Vijay and Martin Guptill, and the assistance of an experienced Eoin Morgan. With his explosive skills in the middle order along with a dynamic David Miller and Wriddhiman Saha adding that extra element with the bat, Maxwell will have an excellent team to lead.

But is Glenn Maxwell the apt person considering Morgan is there in the mix to helm affairs?

It is debatable, but probably the owners are looking to give it a fresh look with new ideas. Maxwell, knowing the flamboyant person he is, will bring a new flavour to the Kings XI Punjab.

With fireworks in his batting, bowling & fielding it’s time to unleash the Captain in him.

In the bowling department, Maxwell will be boosted with the services of young Natarajan from TNPL-fame. Axar Patel, who recently won the Lala Amarnath award for his all-round exploits, will be there to bowl fast spin. Gurkeerat Mann from India will be a part of that unit as well. Matt Henry will bolster the attack as well in the pace department. With news pouring in, we have come to know that Martin Guptill would be missing the start of the IPL season. Yet the question remains: Is Maxwell the right choice ahead of Eoin Morgan and David Miller?

Only time will tell.
