India vs Sri Lanka 2nd Test at Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium, Nagpur, Day 1 Highlights

The Nagpur wicket did not turn out to be a batting paradise on Day 1 of the second Test. Once again Sri Lankan batting lineup were not up the last as they lost two wickets in the first session. Wickets fell at regular intervals as Indian spinners Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja did not let Lankan batsmen off the hook. Ashwin took 4 wickets in the innings and took a step closer towards becoming the fastest to 300 Test wickets. Jadeja picked three wickets as well despite the no ball fiasco to Dimuth Karunaratne. The comeback Ishant Sharma rocked the Sri Lankan batting lineup and created trouble for the batsmen with pace and bounce off the wicket.

Opener Karunarante and skipper Dinesh Chandimal scored half-centuries on Day 1. Karunaratne became the first Sri Lankan batsman to score 1,000 Test runs in 2017 and second overall. On the other hand, Chandimal who completed his 3,000 Test runs.

India did not have the best of the starts as Lokesh Rahul got out for 7 runs off 13 balls to Lahiru Gamage. In absence of Shikhar Dhawan, Murali Vijay came to open the innings. His role along with Cheteshwar Pujara is going to be crucial on Day 2.
