Shardul Thakur became the 218th player to make India debut in the 50-over format in the 4th ODI India vs Sri Lanka played at R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. The Men in Blue rode to victory by hammering the home team by a huge margin of 168 runs and took a 4-0 lead in the 5-match bilateral ODI series. Ahead of this series, the 25-year-old speedster from Maharashtra got his maiden ODI call while he finally debuted in on August 31, 2017.

Ahead of the 4th ODI, the cap number 218 was given to the debutant speedster by the head coach of the Ravi Shastri where all the team members were also present. It was a proud moment for the youngster while his teammates were happy to have a new player in the playing XI. The entire moment was captured on the camera and the video was shared on BCCI.tv. In the video, it could be seen that while receiving the cap, someone kicked Shardul from the back. Well, that was none other than Indian skipper Virat Kohli who is very well known for making fun of his mates and mocking them. So this was a good moment to tease one of his squad members who was going to play his first ODI game.
