Mahendra Singh Dhoni has finally equaled the world record for most number stumpings in One Day Internationals during the 2nd India vs Sri Lanka ODI in Pallekele on August 24. He stumped out Dhanushka Gunathilaka in the 15th over of the game and reached this feat during the 298th ODI of his career. Earlier, Sri Lanka’s former wicketkeeper and skipper Kumara Sangakarra topped the list with 99 stumpings in 404 ODIs. Since Sangakarra retired a long ago from the ODIs, MS Dhoni would hold this record as he is an active cricketer.
It was in the 15th over when spinner Yuzvendra Chahal bowled a flighted delivery to which Gunathilaka stepped away from the crease to go for a biggie. He missed hitting the delivery while MS Dhoni made the best of this opportunity. Though he fumbled initially, he was quick enough to grab hold of the ball and dislodge the bails before the batsman could return to the crease. Gunathilake was dismissed on 19 off 37 balls as Dhoni equaled the world record. Now he is just one stumping away to set an all new world record as a wicket keeper in the ODIs.

Earlier today, Virat Kohli won the toss and elected to field first. The Indian squad went unchanged with the same team playing that clinched a thumping nine-wicket win in Dambulla ODI. Sri Lanka, on the other hand, has made three changes in their Playing XI. Thisara Perera, Wanidu Hasaranga and Lakshan Sandakan have been replaced by Dushmantha, Akila Dananjaya and Milinda Siriwardana.
India, who are brimming with confidence after registering a cake-walk victory in Dambulla, will look to continue their winning streak.
