Quinton de Kock’s maiden brainfade moment, gets trolled on Twitter for not taking DRS

The wicketkeeper-batsman has scored 4 centuries and 1 century in the 10 innings he has played against India

South Africa won the toss on a bright Durban day and did not have any hesitation in opting to bat first against India in the 1st ODI. Hashim Amla and Quintin de Kock opened proceedings for Proteas with the bat and got off to a steady start. Amla was the first to be dismissed, he was out leg-before-wicket for 16. The score was 30 at that point. But that didn’t shock us as much as Quintin de Kock, who was adjudicated out LBW off of Yuzvendra Chahal’s delivery. He was on 34 at that time and his partnership with Faf du Plessis was growing.

So what exactly happened?
The ball struck him while he was looking to flick it on the leg side. Replays showed that the ball was to miss the leg stump and had he reviewed it, the decision would have been overturned. But as he did not, the decision stood. Here is how fans on Twitter reacted –

Sunny G with that clapback tho. Mike goes “why is the red ball like kryptonite for Rohit Sharma” & he replies with “well you could say the same for de Kock after those tests” __ #SAvIND

Among South African batsmen who have played at least 30 deliveries in ODIs against leggies & left-arm unorthodox bowlers, Alviro Petersen’s run-rate of 7.53 is the highest.

Among current batsmen, Quinton de Kock (6.4) & David Miller (6.28) lead the charts.#SAvInd

HawkEye shows the ball is missing leg-stump. de Kock did not review and India will be happy. #SAvIND

Something is seriously wrong with de Kock personally #SAvsIND

Bizarre stuff from Quinton de Kock earlier. Walked on an LBW, it wasn’t even out. Given out after he walked but on replay was clearly missing.

De Kock is costing us again .. why you walking for an LBW , you wait for the empire and your partner to judge you out.. nx

De Kock behaviour in that dismissal, was as if he was throwing his toys away after he was told he was wrong by a parent. #SAvIND

Now get Qdk early. If he comes back into form, it’ll be over before you can say Quintin de Kock. #SAvIND

He gets out before anyone could say Quintin de Kock. Match over. #SAvIND

South Africa are at 123 for 4 in 27 overs. Quinton de Kock has been the X-factor for South Africa against India in the previous few years. The wicketkeeper-batsman has scored 4 centuries and 1 century in the 10 innings he has played against India, hence, a lot was riding on him in the absence of AB de Villiers.
