India’s struggle against left arm pacers continues as Rohit, Shikhar get dismissed early by Trent Boult. Read reactions

It is a big occasion for the Indian captain Virat Kohli, who is playing his 200th ODI, can he make it a memorable one?

India won the toss and opted to bat first in the 1st One Day International against New Zealand in Mumbai at the Wankhede Stadium. Dinesh Karthik finally was included in the playing XI. The Indian openers got off to a good start. Trent Boult and Tim Southee look to keep things tight but instead were giving away those rare loose balls, which the Indian openers made full use of. Shikhar Dhawan was out for 9 runs with the score on 16. He was playing the ball a bit too away from the body, looked to cut, only to edge it to the safe hands of Latham. Just after that, Rohit Sharma got things going with two huge sixes, they were sixes of short balls. Just when it seemed Rohit was setting himself up for a big one, he played a rash cross-batted shot. The ball was right up there swinging back into the right-hander, he was bowled with the score on 29. That meant India were 29 for 2, looking down the barrel.

As we speak, Kedar Jadhav and Virat Kohli are trying to get the sinking ship back on track. after the dismissal of the Indian openers, Twitteratis took to the social media to point out India long continuing problem against the left arm seam. Before the match, the India batsman was seen in the nets playing the left arm seamers of Sachin Tendulkar’s son Arjun and some even mentioned the little kid in their tweet.

Boult! Trent Boult savagely rips out India’s openers…and his expression looks a little like Bolt the dog from the movie ‘Bolt’! #INDvNZ pic.twitter.com/dfAzD6HLdw

As we speak, Virat Kohli is playing his 200th ODI, which is a great feat and if one goes by his records after 200 matches, he is right at the top of the tree, followed by AB de Villiers.
