India vs Australia: Steve Waugh on Virat Kohli: I see glimpses of myself and Ricky Ponting

India vs Australia Dharamshala Test, Ind vs Aus: Steve Waugh feels Virat Kohli has qualities of both Ricky Ponting and himself

Steve Waugh was one of the first who came to the fore once the sledging incidents snowballed, he came out and asked Virat Kohli and Steven Smith to douse the flames as they were flaring up. Steve Waugh and Ricky Ponting have been successful World Cup winning captains and now he feels Virat Kohli has qualities of both Ricky Ponting and Steve Waugh.

Steve Waugh speaking to Australian media said that Virat has shades of him and Ricky Ponting, which is a massive compliment. Couple of days back, the Australian media compared Virat Kohli to Donald Trump. Steve Waugh on his Facebook page said, “He’s obviously a very aggressive captain, he encourages a lot of talk amongst his troops and he’s got positive body language.”

He also passed on some advise saying, “I always believed the way you carry yourself is important, that you give off positive vibes to each other and the opposition sort of sense that ‘this is a team that’s really together’.

Explaining why he feels so, he said, “Ricky Ponting was a similar type of player; he’d roll his sleeves up, get stuck in, he’d go into bat pad if he needed to and led by example. And Virat Kohli certainly does that.”

“There’s probably elements of Ricky and myself in his captaincy, but having said that he’s his own man,” Waugh concluded.

If the Donald Trump comment was not good enough to rattle Virat Kohli, they are now resorting to mind games. Earlier today, Cheteshwar Pujara in his press conference said that India is ready for the Dharamshala decider and that the pitch is inconsequential. Here is his press conference.
