Virat Kohli equals MS Dhoni’s record of most ODI wins on the trot as captain

India won the 3rd ODI against Australia at Holkar Stadium, Indore and registered their 9th win on the trot in ODIs

Virat Kohli has broken many records as a captain in 2017. This time around he has equalled former skipper MS Dhoni’s record as a captain and is on his way to break it as well. Team India sealed the series with a win in the third ODI against Australia at Holkar Stadium, Indore. With a win against Australia, India registered their 9th win on the trot in ODIs. By this math, Kohli has equalled Dhoni’s record of 9 ODI wins on the trot as a captain.

India have been on a winning streak as they have managed to win their 12th international match on the trot including the Tests, T20Is and ODIs on Sri Lanka tour. Under Kohli’s captaincy, India has also won their 6th consecutive bilateral ODI series. They have not lost a single ODI series in 2017 with the only tournament lost being the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 to Pakistan in the final.

Under Kohli’s captaincy, India has now become No 1 in two formats of the game — ODIs and Tests. India eclipsed South Africa to become the 1st ranked ODI team in the world. Whereas Australia are now struggling to keep the third position as they might lose it to England who are playing against West Indies in their home conditions.

Kohli might be able to break Dhoni’s captaincy record of most wins on the trot in the 4th ODI against Sri Lanka which will be played at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore. Kohli has also been successful in registering a win percentage greater than Australian skipper Ricky Ponting in ODIs.

Seems like Kohli is breaking all the captaincy records as he prepares his team for the upcoming ICC World Cup 2019 to be held in England & Wales. With two ODIs to go and the form Indian team is in, it is possible that Kohli might better the record and set a world record of most wins on the trot as captain in this form of cricket.
