Kuldeep Yadav picks-up ‘Hat-trick’, becomes 3rd Indian to do so in ODIs. Here’s how world reacts

He achieved this feat against Australia in the second ODI at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata

Slow left-arm chinaman bowler Kuldeep Yadav on September 21 became the third Indian cricketer to claim the hat-trick in One Day International cricket (ODI). He achieved this feat against Australia in the second ODI at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Before Kuldeep, former all-rounder Kapil Dev and medium pacer Chetan Sharma achieved this feat in ODI cricket.

Kapil Dev, the former Indian captain, took the hat-trick against Sri Lanka on 4th January 1991. While, Chetan Sharma registered his name in record books on 31st October 1987.

Kuldeep Yadav achieved this feat in the 32nd over of the Australian innings. He frst picked-up Matthew Wade who tried to cut with an angled bat but the ball took the inside edge and smashed into the stumps. Next he picked up Ashton Agar who was given LBW by the on-field umpire.

The third wicket he picked up of Pat Cummins who tried to defend Kuldeep’s googly but the ball took the outside edge and settled nicely in MS Dhoni’s gloves.

Earlier, team Indian captain Virat Kohli won the toss and he decided to bat first. India managed to set the target of 253 runs in their quota of 50 overs. Virat Kohli top scored with 92 runs. Ajinkya Rahane too impressed with the bat as he scored 52. Besides them, no other batsman managed to score big in front of the Australians.

In reply, Australians kept losing their wickets on regular intervals. After 39 overs Australians were 181-8 . They still need 72 from 66 balls.
