Jasprit Bumrah breaks Ashish Nehra’s record to become second-highest wicket-taker in T20Is for India

This will give young Jasprit Bumrah massive confidence and that will only make him grow

Yorker king Jasprit Bumrah is probably the best death over bowler in the world today. Jasprit Bumrah also could be the biggest find of India since the 2015 cricket World Cup. Bumrah has come through the ranks and has become one of the best T20I bowlers in the world. Meanwhile, India is taking on Australia in the 1st T20I at Ranchi. Virat Kohli led team India has already defeated Australia in the 50-over format 4-1. To make things worse for Australia, Steve Smith pulled out of the game due to a shoulder injury and that was a big setback for the visitors. India won the toss and opted to field first. David Warner, who was the stand-in-captain, started off with two back-to-back boundaries before getting dismissed by a snorter from Bhuvneshwar Kumar. None of the Australian batsmen showed resistance apart from Aaron Finch, who top scored with 42 runs. But it was the Indian bowling that stole the show. Bumrah and Kuldeep being the pick of then, picking two wickets apiece.

Bumrah got the wicket of Tim Paine and Nathan Coulter-Nile in quick succession. He picked both the wickets in the 18th over and ironically both the wickets were clean bowled. It is raining and that has halted play, Australia with 8 balls remaining in their innings are already 118 for 8 but that seems to be too less against a star-studded batting line-up of India.

By picking up the two wickets, Bumrah broke a record by going past Ashish Nehra to become the second highest wicket-taker for India in T20I’s. Bumrah now has 36 wickets from 26 matches, while Nehra has 34 to his name. At the top of the tree is Ravichandran Ashwin sitting pretty with 52 runs.

Ahead of the match, Bumrah seemed rather enthusiastic in playing alongside Nehra. “He’s a very experienced player. I’ve played some cricket with him. I’ve played in World Twenty20 with him. It’s really good to have him in the side… It’s lot of fun. He has loads of experience to share. He’s very helpful for youngsters like me,” said Bumrah in a pre-match presser.
