In Virat Kohli’s Batting, Dean Jones Sees The Flawlessness Of Mona Lisa

Given Virat Kohli’s golden run with the bat as well as his pretty great track record as captain, it’s no wonder that cricketing greats gush over his extraordinary skills.

Recently, it was former Aussie skipper Steve Waugh who ‘prophesied’ that Kohli will go on to break every batting record except Don Bradman’s average of 99.99. Now it’s former Aussie cricketer Dean Jones who has likened the 30-year-old with the Mona Lisa, the flawless portrait of Leonardo Da Vinci.

“Trying to find a weakness in Kohli’s game is like trying to find something wrong with the Mona Lisa. Teams must stop his cover drive and bowl in different areas,” Jones was quoted as saying by icc-cricket.com.

Jones also advised the Aussies refrain from engaging in verbal battle with the Indian skipper. “Do not talk or provoke him. Make him your best mate. At the start of Kohli’s innings, quicks need to bowl at a fourth-stump line and make him play on the back foot. Do not give him width and length outside off-stump,” he said.

Kohli was the star batsman for India in the 2014-15 Test series in Australia. He scored 692 runs in four games at an average of 86.50, with four centuries and was only behind Steve Smith who scored 769 runs.

“On his last tour to Australia he was just awesome with four centuries in eight innings,” Jones said.

The 57-year-old has backed the visitors to win the four Test series saying India has its ‘best’ chance of winning a maiden Test series in Australia in the absence of two of its key cricketers Steve Smith and David Warner.

“If India don’t win this series, they will never win in Australia (sic). India is miles better than Australia in all formats but do they have the belief, and will their fast bowlers last the distance?,” Jones was quoted as saying by the ‘Sydney Morning Herald‘.
