Hardik Pandya rested for Sri Lanka Test series: BCCI

Hardik Pandya made his debut in Test cricket during India tour of Sri Lanka in August 2017

All-rounder Hardik Pandya has been rested for the upcoming Test series against Sri Lanka. Earlier, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) named Pandya in the squad for the first two Tests.

BCCI in its statement released on November 10, said,

The All-India Senior Selection Committee in consultation with the Indian team management has decided to rest all-rounder Hardik Pandya for the upcoming Paytm Test series against Sri Lanka.

While explaining their decision, BCCI said,

Considering Pandya’s heavy recent workload, the decision was made to negate any possibility of a major injury concern. Pandya will undergo a period of strength at conditioning at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru.

Hardin Pandya suffered an injury in his left hand while he was bowling the last over of the third and the decider Twenty20 International (T20I) against New Zealand at Thiruvananthapuram on November 7. Team India, however, won the match and lifted the trophy by defeating Kiwis 2-1.

Pandya made his debut in Test cricket during India tour of Sri Lanka in August 2017.

Team India are scheduled to play 3 Test matches, 3 One Day Internationals (ODIs) and as much T20Is against Sri Lanka.

The first Test match will be played at Eden Gardens in Kolkata from November 16-November 20.
