Gautam Gambhir’s ‘Ek Asha’ to provide free meals to the poor. No one will now sleep hungry!

In a heart-warming gesture, Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir, who helped Team India win the 2011 World Cup, has opened a community kitchen in Delhi aimed to serve free meals to the poor and the destitute. The generous initiative is located in the West Patel Nagar area of the capital. Gautam Gambhir took to his official Twitter handle to announce the launch of his campaign ‘Ek Asha’.

“Won World Cups, Won IPLs, beaten opponents. Now time 2 win hearts & beat hunger. Community Kitchen #1 by Gautam Gambhir Foundation,” Gambhir posted on his Twitter page.

In an another tweet, he wrote: “Compassion in my heart, a plate in my hand and a prayer on my lips ‘No one should sleep hungry’ #ggf #communitykitchen1.”

The left handed batsman also posted two videos and captioned it as: “365 days, 52 weeks, 12 months, numerous hungers & Ek Asha.”

Gambhir, who is currently not a part of the Indian cricket team, is known for his contributions towards several charities. He also showed his generous side when he announced to bear expenses for the children of soldiers martyred in the Maoist attack in Sukma, Chattisgarh.

Gambhir was recently in the news when he failed to make it into 15-member Test squad which is currently touring Sri Lanka for three test match series which will be followed by five One Day Internationals (ODIs) and one off T20.
