Fan Breaches Security To Kiss Virat Kohli During Hyderabad Test

Security under scanner once again as fan enters ground to click selfie with Virat Kohli

Invading the pitch has been a common sight in the ongoing India vs West Indies Test series. After two fans tried to click selfie during the Rajkot Test, now a Virat Kohli fan invaded the pitch and tried to kiss him on the cheek. The Indian skipper did not say much to the fan and let the authorities do their work. But, then the invader tried to plant a kiss on his cheek forcing Kohli to push him away.

The 29-year-old looked visibly upset by the fan’s action. As the security dragged the invader out of the ground, the crowd roared and clapped. The on-field umpires even called for drinks after the halt in Day 1’s play.

The security has been a question in matches held in India. Fans invading pitch to click selfies or just meet their idols in person has been a regular affair. However, it raises a huge question over the security at international grounds.

Though it looks harmless but at times it might lead to an accident. As far as international matches are concerned, they have been limited to pitch invaders only but in domestic cricket, it’s much beyond that. In 2017, a person drove his car in the middle of the Feroz Shah Kotla ground during a Ranji Trophy match which included prominent players like Gautam Gambhir, Ishant Sharma and others.

It is not like Kohli and other cricketers don’t oblige to fans’ request to take selfie or autographs. But fans need to respect boundaries. Disturbing a player’s concentration like that is no fanboy moment but an offense.
