England announce squad for 2nd Test vs West Indies: Woakes replaces Roland-Jones

Chris Woakes was not a part of the squad that beat South Africa in a resounding manner, due to a side strain injury

After England thrashed West Indies by an innings and 209 runs, the onus is on the visitors to show some spine in the second Test. In the meanwhile, England has announced their squad that will take part in the second Test at Headingley. England have just announced the squad and they have made just one change and that is Chris Woakes will come back instead of an injured Roland-Jones. Chris Woakes was not a part of the squad that beat South Africa in a resounding manner, due to a side strain injury. Now that he is fit, he comes back into the side instead of young Jones.

Woakes scored a half-century and took five wickets for Warwickshire in his County Championship return against champions Middlesex and is set to slot in at number nine in the order.

He will also be a key for England in the middle order, which is already strong, thanks to Ben Stokes. Chris Woakes will also chip in with the ball. He does not have a lot of speed, so he can be used in short bursts to give the main bowler some rest.

Joe Root the captain has been having a dream run and England supporters would be hoping he continues.

For West Indies, it will be tough to come back, but in cricket nothing is impossible. They will look for inspiration from somewhere to get them going after former fast bowler Curtly Ambrose criticised the display shown by the visitors. The England squad is in red hot form and it has to be West Indies who need players to stand up and deliver to stand a chance of even making a game out of the second Test.

England squad:

England team: Joe Root (captain), Moeen Ali, James Anderson, Jonny Bairstow, Stuart Broad, Alastair Cook, Dawid Malan, Ben Stokes, Mark Stoneman, Tom Westley, Chris Woakes.
