Despite Virat Kohli, Ravichandran Ashwin’s poor show, no changes in ICC rankings

Virat Kohli remained the highest-placed Indian batsman at second, while off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin held on to his top position in both the bowlers' and all-rounders' list of the latest ICC Test rankings.

Virat Kohli and Ravichandran Ashwin will second the fact that the last three days have been their worst since a very long time. They were thrashed, their egos must have taken a beating, but the silver lining is that their ICC Test rankings have not taken a blow. Virat Kohli still remains the world’s second best batsman after his counterpart from Australia Steven Smith. Ravichandran Ashwin also remains the worlds best Test bowler and all-rounder in the world, according to the ICC rankings just released.

Meanwhile, riding high on the ton, Steven Smith has extended his lead at the top of the batting charts. He reached a career-high 939 points in the lately released rankings. This latest points by Steven Smith is the sixth highest ever after legends like Don Bradman (961), Len Hutton (945), Jack Hobbs and Ricky Ponting (both 942) and Peter May (941).

Tough when it comes to team rankings, India still remain at the numero uno spot, followed by an in-form Australia. In this Test, Steven Smith actually proved why he is rated so highly. On an unplayable Pune pitch, Smith dug deep and scored  27 and 109 respectively. Meanwhile, Mitchell Starc is the biggest gainer moving up by three slots to become the fourth best all-rounder after his match-winning show with the bat and the ball. His counter number Umesh Yadav who picked up six wickets in the match moved up four places as well, to become 30th in the list.

Renshaw, too has moved up 18 places to a career-best 34th position scoring 68 and 31.
