David Warner Turns Right-Handed, Embarrasses Chris Gayle By Scoring 14 Off 3 Balls

David Warner must have got Sunrisers Hyderabad excited ahead of IPL 2019 with his right-handed batting

Ambidextrous players are always exciting to watch. Aussie opener David Warner, who is currently banned from playing for his national team, recently gave viewers a lot to cheer for when he turned right-handed batsman. During the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) match between Sylhet Sixers and Rangpur Riders on January 16, Warner attempted batting right-handed for the first time, leaving spectators pleasantly surprised.

The Sylhet skipper countered Chris Gayle with his new strategy, and was able to score just a couple of runs off the first three deliveries of the penultimate over of the innings. The left-handed batsman decided to turn right-handed which led to an immediate response from the Sylhet crowd.

His plan worked as he was able to hit the ball with the spin. The first ball he faced right handed was hammered for a six over Gayle’s head. The next ball was guided past the backward square fielder for a boundary. And for the next ball he played a reverse sweep, getting a boundary by beating the third man fielder.

He was able to score 14 runs off the last three deliveries of the over, turning a decent over from ‘Universe Boss’ to a horrible one.

While batting on 47*, David Warner starts playing Right-handed; hits Chris Gayle for 14 off 3 balls (6+4+4). Sunrisers Hyderabad would be delighted with this new #DavidWarner. That dance at the end though #BPLT20 #BPL20 #IPL2019 pic.twitter.com/hTx3brNeUa

The 32-year-old explained what was the thought process behind improvising towards the end of the innings:

“It was one of those things at the back of my mind as I couldn’t get Chris away because of his height and the lengths that he was bowling. I play golf right-handed, so I thought I might as well come and swing and clear the ropes. It came off.”

He scored 61 runs off just 36 deliveries guiding his team to a total of 187 for 5. The Australian also had a dance move in store after hitting a boundary off Gayle which many found amusing.

Belly dance!

What I saw from @davidwarner31 is outrageous.
You have seen switch hits bit a left handed batsman batted with right handed stance and scored 6,4,4.
And that belly Dance

In general term that is an insult from Dave!!#BPL2019

Making the most of his time off

In case you’re wondering what David Warner has been doing with his “time off”, it appears he’s been learning to bat right-handed…. pic.twitter.com/9PhBHXHB9i

Yes, he can

David Warner bats right-handed.
Quite incredible.
That guy can make the ball and the bat swing either way.

Good news for Sunrisers Hyderabad

After struggling for the first 3 balls of the 18th over of Gyale, David Warner smashed 14 runs of the remaining 3 balls with a 6 and two 4s. Speciality of the last 3 deliveries was that he batted right handed #Warner #RightHandedWarner #OrangeArmy #SRH @SunRisers pic.twitter.com/u1tFkHBmsp

David Warner batting right handed against Chris Gayle is a legitimate action, unlike the switch hit, because the bowler knows he is bowling to a right hander from the beginning. It is difficult but fair. The switch hit is difficult too but unfair to the bowler.
