Cheteshwar Pujara keeps India alive in 1st Test and here’s how Twitterati praise his performance

Despite the pressure and unfavourable weather conditions, Pujara batted remarkably well on the wet outfield.

Cheteshwar Pujara turned out to be the saviour for the Indian cricket team on Day of 1 of the India vs Sri Lanka Test series at the Eden Gardens. On day 1, Suranga Lankamal caused a deep dent to the home team and dismissed KL Rahul in the first ball of the match. He didn’t just stop there but went on to hunt Shikhar Dhawan (8) and skipper Virat Kohli (0) down. Unfortunately day 2 turned out to be no different for the hosts.

In the first hour of the game, India lost the wickets of Ajinkya Rahane (4) and R Ashwin (4) and was reduced to 50/4. Despite the pressure and unfavourable weather conditions, Pujara batted remarkably well on the wet outfield. Pujara had scored 47 before the match was interrupted due to rain during the first session on day 2.

Meanwhile, Twitteratis couldn’t stop applauding Pujara’s phenomenal performance.

Here are a few tweets:

To recount what John Wright told Rahul Dravid at Leeds in 2002, if Pujara converts this into a century, it could be the highest point on his CV

Cmon Rain – You could have been courteous enough to allow Pujara complete his half century – With the largest partnership of 24 runs on, India would take lunch early – 74/5 – Pujara 47 & Saha 6 #INDvSL

Dug one out that kept a tad low early on, dropped wrists beautifully to one that was banged in, stroked that last one for four through cover… Pujara on point this morning. #IndvSL

Out of 54 runs scored by India so far – 33 runs have come from Pujara’s bat. The rest of the 4 batsmen have managed 16 runs and 5 extras have come …hmmm #indvsl

Before the game was stopped due to rain and an early lunch was taken, Pujara was playing on 47 and Team India were at 74/2.
