Australian woman leg-spinner Amanda-Jade Wellington stunned the crowd at the North Sydney Oval during the only Test against England. She not only bamboozled English batswoman Tammy Beaumont with one of her unplayable deliveries but also reminded the cricket fans of Shane Warne’s globally famous ‘ball of the century’.
The incident happened in the 2nd innings when the English eves were trailing by 97 runs. The ball bowled by Wellington pitched around the leg stump but when it hit the ground, it took a vigorous turn towards the opposite direction. Beaumont was completely tricked by that sharp turn and before she could react, the ball had dislodged the off stump. Wellington got the first breakthrough for the Aussies while Beaumont was out on 37.

This was indeed the best example of spin bowling which reminded everyone of Shane Warne’s delivery dismissing Mike Gatting in the first Test of the 1993 Ashes series.
Amanda’s delivery was equally magnificent to that of Warne’s. Moreover, it’s probably the best delivery ever witnessed in women’s cricket.
The only Test between England and Australia in the Women’s Ashes end in a draw. Earlier, Aussie batswoman Ellyse Perry scripted history by getting her first ever double century in the Women’s Tests. She has also become the highest run getter for Australia in the Test circuit. She played a knock of 213 runs and remained unbeaten. She also surpassed Karen Rolton who scored 209 runs unbeaten against England at Leeds in 2001.
