Women’s Indian cricket team’s star batswoman Harmanpreet Kaur has climbed another step of success. The 28-year-old cricketer from Moga, Punjab, has been promoted as Officer on Special Duty (OSD) in the Western Railway. She has been working for the Western Railway (WR) in Mumbai as the chief office superintendent since May 2014.
According to a PTI report, while speaking to the media personnel, a senior spokesperson of WR said,”In recognition of her outstanding performance in the recently concluded ICC Women’s World Cup, the railway ministry has granted Kaur an out-of-turn promotion in gazetted rank Group-B as Officer on Special Duty (OSD)-Sports in the Western Railway.”
Harmanpreet also received appreciation from Western Railway’s General Manager A K Gupta and Senior Deputy General Manager Raj Kumar Lal, who is also the president of Western Railway Sports Association. WR General Manager said,”Harmanpreet is an inspiration to all sports persons, especially women.”
Harmanpreet rocked the semi-finals in the recently concluded ICC Women’sWorld Cup 2017 held in England and Wales. She played a humungous knock of 171 runs against Australia and carved the road to the finals. India would have scripted history in the finals against England however, they failed to do so and lost the game by a mere 9 runs. The entire women’s team performed phenomenally throughout the tournament and won a million hearts.
After her excellent performance, the then railway minister Suresh Prabhu had on July 27 announced a cash reward of Rs 1.30 crore for 10 members of the Indian women’s cricket team, employed with Indian Railways. Recently, Harmanpreet also received the Arjuna Award. She has become a household name in recent times with her consistent showing on the cricket field. She was the first Indian to play in the Big Bash League.
