All Rise For The Queen: Mary Kom Wins Record 6th Gold At World Boxing Championship

One biopic on Mary Kom is not enough, there should be a sequel for everything she has achieved after

Mary Kom has done it again! The legendary boxer has now become the world’s most successful female boxer of all time after winning gold at the 2018 World Championships. She beat Ukraine’s Hanna Okhota comprehensively to win her sixth gold medal at the Women’s World Championships.

She won her first gold in 2002, and followed it up by scooping up more top honours in 2005, 2006, 2008, 2010 and now in 2018.

This time round, she had the support of the homecrowd behind her at the KD Jadhav Indoor Stadium in New Delhi. Kom went past Northern Ireland’s Katie Taylor who has 5 gold medals at the World Championships to her name. With her 6th gold medal she also became the joint most successful boxer (male or female) along with former Cuban boxer and legend Felix Savon.

This year has been an exceptional one for the 35-year-old. The mother-of-three won a gold medal in Commonwealth Games 2018 by beating Norther Ireland’s Kristina O’Hara to become the first India to achieve it.
