A Bit Much? Essex Cricket Pokes Fun At Virat Kohli With ‘Not Bad At Cricket’ Remark

The banter has started already as Virat Kohli attempts to erase the mistakes of his past in England

The focus has shifted to one of the most-awaited Test series of the year, India vs England. Indian skipper Virat Kohli will be in the spotlight for more than two months, whether he performs well on English pitches or not. Kohli played a decent knock in the practice game against Essex, scoring a half-century under conditions that favoured the fast bowlers.

After a rickety top order reduced India to 3 for 44, Kohli led the counter-attack along with opener Murali Vijay. The skipper focused on scoring boundaries and stitched a partnership with Vijay. He reached his half-century in 67 balls — a strike rate which is considered better than most in the longer version of the game.

Essex Twitter handle posted a video of Kohli hitting a boundary and reaching his half-century. However, it is not the video but the caption which was meant to poke fun at Kohli —

Kohli scored 68 runs from 93 balls, including 12 boundaries. He got out to left-arm pacer Paul Walter, edging the ball to the first-slip while attempting to hit a cover drive.

The last time Kohli toured England, his performance was below par. The 29-year-old has played 5 Test matches on English pitches and scored 134 runs from 10 innings. He scored at an average of 13.40 with a high score of 39. His previous performance is the reason for the buzz around the series, as many say it will be a Test of Kohli’s skills.
