SC Revokes Life Ban On Cricketer S Sreesanth

In a major relief for cricketer S Sreesanth. The SC set aside life ban imposed on him by the Board of Control Of Cricket in India

In a major relief for cricketer S Sreesanth. The Supreme Court On Friday set aside life ban imposed on him by the Board of Control Of Cricket in India(BCCI).

BCCI had banned the  35-year-old cricketer for life, over alleged charges of spot-fixing in the  2013 edition of Indian Premier League (IPL). The Apex court has directed BCCI to decide the quantum of punishment within the next three months. The SC also said that the cricketer will get an opportunity of being heard by BCCI’s disciplinary commitee on the quantum of punishment.

This verdict, however, will have no bearing on the case pending against the cricketer in Delhi High Court, where Delhi Police has challenged the trial court’s order discharging all accused, including Sreesanth in the spot-fixing case.

The judgment was delivered by a bench comprising Justice Ashok Bhushan and Justice KM Joseph.

The SC was hearing Sreesanth’s plea challenging the decision of division bench of Kerala High Court which had restored the life ban imposed on him by the BCCI.

In May 2013, S Sreesanth and his teammates s Ankit Chavan and Ajit Chandila playing for Rajasthan Royals were arrested by the Delhi Police for their alleged involvement in the spot-fixing controversy.
