Karan Johar to produce a sex comedy soon with ‘Dharma values’ intact

Dharma Productions, helmed by Karan Johar is now going to produce a sex comedy, directed by Gippi maker, Sonam Nair. Why is this a big deal though?

Seems like Dharma Productions is on a spree to support films with varied content. The Karan Johar-helmed production company is now set to produce a sex comedy now. The film titled as Get a Room is being directed by Gippi maker Sonam Nair.

The film is going to be a modern take on relationships as told by Nair to a leading daily. Talking to Deccan Chronicle about the film, the director said:

When Karan first heard the script, he was like, ‘what am I supposed to do with this?’ But then he realised that it is a modern take on relationships. He is cool and experimental like that. It is a small film with a humble budget and will have Dharma’s values at the core — it’s a love story. I am hoping for it to go on floors this year.

Get a Room will feature new actors. According to Nair, the film demands fresh faces because the story has that kind of innocence. Talking about the same, she said:

The movie needs newcomers. The film has been on hold only because we couldn’t find the right actors. It’s a film where two people are talking about sex, but there are no sexual innuendoes.

All good but what are these ‘Dharma values’ Nair is talking about? Why does producing a sex comedy become such a big deal? Why to demean this genre of filmmaking? Yes, the history of Hindi cinema in making sex comedies is not something worth glorifying but we have also had good adult comedies like Hunterrr and Delhi Belly in the recent past.

Let’s hope that filmmakers experiment more with this genre and bring some better adult comedies soon.
