Dildos to ‘cock locks’, sex toys made in Pakistan are a rage online. Here’s where they are selling it

When kink is prohibited but profitable

Stainless steel neck wrist toys, cock locks, anal beads — and hundreds of other kinky products are being made in Pakistan. Yes, you heard it right. For a conservative society, it’s quite a risky deal. But it’s an amazingly lucrative business to get in, in Pakistan.  All the products are manufactured in leather and steel factories in Pakistan. Most of the what is made is exported and sold through e-commerce windows. Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba  hosts these Pakistan made products. There are reportedly 64 listed Pakistani toy suppliers on Alibaba.com. The companies manufacturing sex toys specialise in making surgical and orthopedic instruments and that’s how they are known in Pakistan. The products are also sold under the “Surgical Instruments,Dental Instruments,Vet Instruments, Electro Instruments” tags.  The leather products like mouth ball gag and harness bondage are sold under leather fashion category.

Here are some screenshots from Alibaba.com.

Look at how the anal pug is being described by the company.

The product is described as a “high-quality utensil”, which is what the company actually manufactures.

Europe and North America are their biggest markets. There is demand in some parts of Asia also. It is not clear if these products have local buyers. But Pakistanis are increasingly experimenting with sex toys. Indians would be highly disappointed to know that their more conservative neighbour rank higher when it comes to buying sex toys. According to Vouchercloud, India ranks 141 while Pakistan ranks 126 in the “sex toy world ranking”.

How Pakistan became such a lucrative sex toy market and exporter

According to The Economist, there are primarily two reasons for this jump in demand for sex toys and Pakistani products finding more buyers. First, is the global success of the film “Fifty Shades of Grey”. The erotic film brought BDSM to people’s bedrooms and egged many couples across the globe to experiment with it. Secondly, buyers in Europe and America are growing a fetish for metal toys and ditching the rubber products made in China because of the fear that the latter has cancer causing chemicals. This change in trend allow metal factories producing tongs and surgical instruments in Pakistan to cater to the new demands of the sex toy crazed customers in the West. As for leather products fetish outfits like kinky jacket and corsets would fetch them two hundred times more money than a plain leather jacket.

Fifty Shades of Grey unleashed a craze in BDSM, increasing demand for sex toys

What The Economist article also states is that manufacturing of these products are kept clandestine as sex is a taboo in the country and kink is not something that is supposed to figure in someone’s wildest dreams. Even the people giving shape to a dildo or a an anal pug hardly know what they are making. For them its another tong or surgical item. The manufacturers usually refrain from naming these products on their original website where they advertise their surgical items.

What the budding but clandestine sex toy market in Pakistan proves is kink is a lucrative proposition and it makes its way even in the most conservative environments.
