Why This Man’s ‘Simple Shaadi’ Is A Lesson In This Season Of Extravagance

A Twitter thread about a simple wedding is winning hearts on internet

2018 has been a year of some of the most lavish celeb weddings. The season of extravagance that started with Sonam Kapoor’s wedding, followed by the #Deepveer and #NickYanka weddings, went several notches higher with the wedding of Mukesh Ambani’s daughter Isha. The wealth on display had the media and the viewers in a tizzy.

But this weekend, a Twitter thread about a simple wedding won everyone’s hearts. Rizwan Pehelwan shared the story behind how he made the arrangements for his special, which he called, a ‘wedding on his own terms’. Total budget? Rs 20,000. Total guest list? 25 close friends. Sounds wonderful, does it not?

Guys shaadi season hai so here’s my wedding story in a thread so you guys know that having apni marzi ki shaadi is possible.

My guest list had 25 names: friends and parents. The venue was my terrace. The menu was chicken tikka, seekh kabab, pathooray chanay halwa strawberries.

No need to splurge money

I set my max budget at Rs. 20,000. A friend lent his cooks, I bought the chicken and masalay from that money and helped prepare it all. Wife cooked khattay alu as a starter. Dad bought fairy lights n put them up on the terrace.

Full jugaad

I borrowed 25 chairs from the neighborhood election committee lmao. I forgot dessert so @RizWanKenobi_ brought strawberries n ice cream. He also brought tables for the food. @HaseenaAtomBum and @hiranajam FLEW IN FOR THIS.

As for the wedding dresses

My wife and I wore plain blue shalwar kameez (mom n sis paid for this as a gift). We all ate and talked till midnight when wapda cut us off. The whole shaadi then moved to Manji Munch DHA and then bas. Khush! Done!

And a message for all

What I’m trying to say is. IT’S. OKAY. Sukoon karo. Do whatever you want ofc and whatever you can afford. But HAVE FUN. Be happy. Big or small, all weddings should just be HAPPY. Khush raho sab. Bye. (wedding pic added for saboot thanks) pic.twitter.com/xf2OJHqTVH

Since being posted online, the thread has amassed over 1,700 retweets and 4,700 likes. Many lauded him for keeping it simple and even called it the coolest wedding of the year.

This is literally the coolest story I have ever heard. I loved this.

This is lovely! I think all weddings should be like this. Weddings are important rites of passage and you should only be surrounded by love and honesty when it’s happening. The simpler the event the better and more loving.

This is how I would marry…if I ever would …

Wow, kudos to you but more than that kudos to your parents for going along with it 🙂 Most of the parents would probably disown their kids for doing this 🙂

Lovely stuff. I hope we all learn something from this

Indeed, a marriage to remember!
