It’s not a common sight to see judges of India’s top court singing. But Monday evening was an exception.
Two apex court judges – Justice Kurian Joseph and Justice K M Joseph – from flood-ravaged state of Kerala belted out some numbers at a fundraising event in New Delhi. The event was held for the affected people of the coastal state where the floods have already left nearly 450 people dead and a million homeless.
At the event, it was Justice Kurian Joseph who led the rendition of ‘We shall overcome, some day…’ along with Bollywood singer Mohit Chauhan. However, not many till then had an idea about the singing traits of Justice K M Joseph who stole the show by singing a Malayalam song.
Justice Jospeph’s choice of the song from the movie Amaram was actually his way of paying tribute to Kerala’s fishing community.
“Fishermen were the first to react when the state was reeling under severe floods. This song is a tribute to them,” he said.
More than Rs 10 lakh were collected during the event held at the auditorium of Indian Society for International Law, opposite the Supreme Court complex, PTI reported.
Besides Honorable Chief Justice of India, Dipak Mishra, the event was also attended by prominent jurists, lawyers and Supreme Court journalists.
