“Surgery To Remove Bullets Was Delayed,” Says Kafeel Khan Whose Brother Was Shot At In UP

Bike-borne assailants shot at Kashif Jaleel, Khan's younger brother, late on Sunday night

Unknown bike-borne assailants shot at Kashif Jameel, the younger brother of Dr Kafeel Khan, who was suspended after the Gorakhpur hospital tragedy in Uttar Pradesh last year. Jameel was on his way back home late on Sunday night when he was shot at.

The 35-year-old businessman, who received injuries in his arm, shoulder, and neck, was rushed to the hospital. Jameel was shot near Kotwali police station of Gorakhpur. Khan claimed that crucial time was lost as the police insisted on filing a medico-legal case, The Indian Express reported. “It took an hour to file it (medico-legal case). They (police) again insisted that the medical college will file the medico-legal and a board will be constituted and after that, you will get the clearance,” Khan said in a video that he posted on Twitter

Gorakhpur BRD Medical Hospital paediatrician, Dr Kafeel Khan, was accused after more than 60 children died due to lack of oxygen supply in August last year. However, he was released on bail in April this year and is one of the nine accused in the case.

Khan was the nodal officer of the 100-bed AES ward at the Baba Raghav Das Medical College and was removed following the deaths of 30 children on August 10 and August 11.

Khan spent nearly eight months in prison until he was released on bail in April. A month after his release, Dr Khan volunteered to serve in Kerala where the Nipah virus had claimed many lives.
