After Smriti Irani tweeted #CottonIsCool, there has been a barrage of tweets with people sharing their pictures with the Union Minister, who seems to be enjoying the trend

Enjoying summers? Union Minister for Textiles Smriti Irani certainly seems to be having fun! On Tuesday, the Minster tweeted #CottonIsCool and posted a picture of her in a multicoloured cotton saree. With that picture, she tweeted how she is “celebrating Indian summers” with her cotton look. Tagging five of her colleagues, she invited others to share what their cotton look is.

Since then, there has been a barrage of tweets with people sharing their pictures wearing clothes of the fabric. Among those who tweeted their pictures include actor-turned-politician Hema Malini, Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju and Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu. Even former cricketer Virender Sehwag, boxer Vijender Singh and author Amish Tripathi joined in the trend by tweeting their pictures to Smriti Irani.

Talking about the benefits of cotton, Smriti Irani said: “Cotton has become the ultimate summer fabric. Cotton provides comfort in the scorching heat.Wear cotton to stay cool & celebrate the cotton industry that employs millions across the country.”

The actor-turned-politician also claimed that India’s rendezvous with cotton “predates the Indus Valley civilisation and has since evolved.”

Continuing the trend, Ministry of Textiles also tweeted the benefits of cotton claiming that the fabric draws heat from your skin and keeps you cool. Fashion Design Council of India also tweeted adding that India is one of the largest cotton producing nations.
